About the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism

The Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism (SSM) is a non-profit, volunteer organization that was formed in 1989. The mission of SSM is to bring together Saskatchewan seniors’ organizations to promote:

  • A unified voice;
  • Research and action on issues affecting seniors; and
  • Awareness and coordination of resources and services to seniors.

The Thirteen member organizations of the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism are provincial and local seniors’ groups composed of more than 100,000 seniors throughout the province. The Mechanism has the capacity to reach and provide information to an even larger number of people in all corners of Saskatchewan .

Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism is experienced in managing complex projects, developing productive partnerships with groups and organizations throughout the province and in developing and implementing community based solutions to problems.

The Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism has the expertise and experience to research, develop, implement and provide leadership to programs benefiting seniors. The Mechanism has many years of progressive experience in developing and managing complex projects that contribute to the well being of its members and the improvement of the communities involved. It has successfully partnered with a wide variety of community, business and labour organizations, and with government departments and agencies at the federal, provincial and municipal levels.

Goals

  • To create awareness of programs and services available to seniors
  • To assist member organizations and others to apply for grants and other funds
  • To facilitate resource sharing among seniors' organizations
  • To act as an advocate on behalf of member organizations on request
  • To establish financial stability and independence
  • To build bridges of understanding and respect among seniors' organizations and among generations
  • To establish and maintain an effective administrative structure and effective processes
